István Bencsik oeuvre exhibition. Pécs, European Capital of Culture 2010
Sculptor István Bencsik’s retrospective exhibit is part of the cultural capital’s oeuvre exhibition programme. This career of over four decades is presented at several venues at the same time, in diverse media.
The three main pillars of the presentation of the oeuvre are the exhibitions, a publication and the webpage of the artist. The displays, simultaneously presented on different venues, provide a context for the oeuvre, as well as new points of emphasis in it: István Bencsik’s activity as an educator and organizer of public life deserves as much attention as the reception history of his work. Beside the artist’s works, the parallel displays and events use documents, archival material and videos to offer a nuanced view of the oeuvre and activities of this highly significant Pécs master.
Exhibition dates and venues:
October 22 – November 21, 2010: Pécsi Galéria, Pécs, Széchenyi-tér 4.
Opening: October 22, 7 pm. Opening speech by László Sólyom, former President of Hungary. Technical introduction by Katalin Keserü.

Among other objectives, the cultural events of 2010 also seek to make the wider public learn more about artists of European significance who have strong ties with the city of Pécs. The programme includes the oeuvre exhibitions of sculptor István Bencsik, painter Sándor Pinczehelyi, and graphic artist and sculptor István Gellér B., and will be accompanied by a monograph.
